Today Rick got up early to go on a charter fishing trip on the Lake with Lake Tahoe Sport Fishing while Susan did some work for Rick’s company (something doesn’t sound right about that). He was happy with the trip since it has been 3 month since he has been on a boat or fishing.
While the beautiful morning trip was successful (2 lake trout is the limit) the method of fishing not the most exciting. They call it mooching which is basically bottom fishing in 90 to 180 feet of water (only 4 ounces of weight because there is no current) as the boat slowly trolls. It was a very nice setting with warm weather and a calm lake looking at snow covered mountain. The mate Luke was an interesting guy. It turns out his is a very avid hiker and has hiked the Appalachian trail down and back non stop (called a yo-yo). In the process he worn out 9 pair of hiking shoes! He has also done the pacific coast trail down and half way back till he was missing friends and family and stopped. Not too different a feeling then we are starting to experience after 3 months. Micheal, Rick’s brother could have really swapped stories with this guy.
After a late lunch at the RV we head into town to drop off the fish at a restaurant that will prepare it for us then head to the top of Harrah’s to have a drink and enjoy the view. It turns out the bar was not open yet but we did get to see the view before we settled for a drink outside in the village as we listened to some live music. Now off to dinner at Mac Duffs where we sat outside and enjoyed a wonderful fish dinner. They prepared it 3 ways fried, blackened and in a sherry cream sauce all were spectacular! As we ate we met the guys sitting next to us.
One of them Kevin was a very educated, well traveled man that was a hospital administrator now on a temporary consulting engagement at the local hospital. He was very friendly and a great conversationalist we enjoyed chatting with. We believe he might now befollowing our blog. We head back to the RV and agree we are ready to leave Lake Tahoe and go to a lower, warmer elevation tomorrow. Next up Winnemucca, NV which is only a stopover on our way to Craters of the moon in Idaho.
